Trains, Planes and Automobiles

First of our postings officially on our Trip of a Lifetime.  We have been planning this trip for well over 6 months now and the departure day is finally here. Barb and I celebrated our 10th anniversary together on July 7th 2015 and this trip is part of our celebration together.

So we left home at 2:00 pm and want to thank our friends Charlene and Chuck for coming by to drive us to the Oshawa GO Station.  We so much appreciated your generosity.

We would highly recommend the route we took to anyone living in the East end of Toronto or beyond.  We caught the GO Train from Oshawa to Union Station then we took the new Union to Pearson Express train.  Very relaxing, no traffic worries and by 4:30 pm we were in the Bar after checking in and getting through security.  If I had any recommendations it would have been that the walk from the GO Train concourse at Union to the Union to Pearson Express platform was a bit of a walk.  But we did find this as a great way to get to the airport.

So Barb wants me to mention here that her bag was 2 kg lighter than my bag, but we were both well under the weight limit.  I will figure out why mine was heavier, she must have snuck something into my bag when I wasn't looking.

We have had a nice dinner now and are sitting at our gate waiting to board.  We still have 2 hours to kill but we prefer to be early and stress free rather than worrying if we will make it or not.

Tomorrow when we arrive we will be getting our rental car, and driving wildly on the wrong side of the road in Scotland.  Standard Transmission and shifting gears with my left hand should be fun but I can't wait to give it a go. It will probably take us over 12 hours from the time we left until we get to our Bed and Breakfast "guest house" tomorrow.  We will likely post a short message when we arrive to announce that we are safe in Airdrie.

  1. Hey...it's 7:15 pm here in Pickering and I think you just flew overhead! And the pilot just ditched your bowling ball into Lake Ontario...that's why your bags were heavier than Barb's!! Not to worry, Riley retrieved it from the lake, and you won't need them where you are going. I'm sure you're enjoying a drink or two right about now....take a deep breath and ENJOY every minute! Looking forward to your updates!

  2. How exciting!!! I have to admit, I'm pretty damn jealous! Dave you snuck a golf club or two in there didn't you!?!?! Have a good snooze on the plane! Mom, if Dave keeps you up, just drop a couple gravols into his drink! That mixed with the beer will knock him out for sure!
